ESC 2  has nine students currently enrolled for 2018. 7 boys and 2 girls; 3 students in Year 1, 5 students in Year 2, 1 student in Year 3.

ESC 2 staff strive to create programs that meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of all students. Each student is catered for with an Individual Education Plan using SMART goals created from the Western Australian Special Education Needs Assessment Tool (SENAT) and the Western Australian Curriculum.

We implement the philosophies of TEACCH within our classroom, insuring all students know what they are doing, when, where, with whom and for how long. Learning within the classroom varies between students rotating from working independently on low demand tasks, to working one-on-one with the teacher or an education assistant. We use direct /explicit instruction teaching methods when working on demanding tasks with the teacher or an education assistant. Small group collaboration and whole class mat sessions take place within daily timetabled activities.

Learning areas within ESC 2 include; Mathematics, English, Science, Music, Art, Health and Physical Education, Technology and Enterprise, Humanities and Social Sciences, Social and Life Skills. Throughout the year we will be incorporating teaching Protective Behaviour lessons, delivering a Healthy Eating and Cooking /Healthy Lunch Box program, a RRR recycling program and participating in excursions as part of the Life Skills learning area. ESC 2 integrate with the O’Connor Primary School for specialist classes such as Science, Music and Physical Education.

We participate with the local school in whole school events such as the Assemblies, Sports Carnivals, NAIDOC, Harmony, Family Picnic, Jump Rope for Heart and the ‘O’Connor Day’ as well as incursions where and when appropriate.

ESC 2 Staff value the communication they have with the students, their families/carers and work to build and maintain these strong relationships with the support from other professionals from within the community.

We look forward to providing the very best education for our students enrolled in 2018.
